The Deschutes isn't known as a streamer river. In fact, if you ask most anglers that fish the Deschutes on a regular basis they've probably never ever tried a streamer. Most fly shops that service the river don't even stock streamers.

Here's a few tips to help you find more steelhead this winter. Happy hunting!
Look for the “Gooey” water. If you’ve ever fished with me, you’ve heard me talk about matching the water I choose to fish with the water temperatures. In the cold months of winter, don't waste precious fishing time in the short days of winter fishing fast riffles... The fish don't live there when the water is cold. Instead, focus your efforts in the slow, “gooey” water in the guts and tail-outs of pools.
Every once in a while somebody asks me what my favorite Spey rod is... Truth be told, I'm a gear whore. That being said, there's a lot of sweet sticks in the pile but I've compiled my favorite dry line and Skagit set-ups on a Recommended Spey Equipment page.
Golf instructors realized a long time ago that video taping their students was an extremely powerful teaching tool. So much so, that someone really smart and savvy built software that allows instructors to build a complete lesson plan for their students around videos. (If you golf, you’re probably saying “Duuu Tom”)
Are you looking for more insights into Spey casting and fishing? I've built one page where you can access my my popular posts on two-handed fishing.
You'll find everything from Spey fishing tips to equipment reviews on the new Larimer Outfitters Spey Page.
Winston's new line of Boron III TH Spey rods are due to hit fly shops any day now. I was lucky enough to test drive the new two-handers a couple of weeks ago and thought I'd give you a sneak peek at the new series. In addition to reviews on the new Boron III TH spey rods, I've included spey line recommendations with the "Larimer stamp of approval".
