Sage graciously sent me a number of the new ONE Spey and Switch rods for the filming of Skagit Master 4 in the Great Lakes. One of my favorite rods in the bunch was the ONE 7116-4 Switch rod. It was perfect for fishing the small to medium steelhead rivers in the Midwest. Since then, I’ve had a chance to fish the ONE on a number of different West Coast Rivers.
Fly fishing is supposed to be fun, right? After two weeks of filimg from sun up until sun down I was feeling a little mischievous!
I recently returned from filming Skagit Master 4 in the Great Lakes region. It was wonderful to reconnect with some of the rivers I once guided and fished. I also had the privilege of fishing and filming with a few of the best two-handed anglers in the Midwest including Dave Pinczkowski, Jeff Hubbard and Jay Niederstadt.
Those of you that have seen the Skagit Master Video Series already know it’s the most comprehensive library on modern steelhead techniques. I was fortunate enough to be part of the third video that featured some truly innovative fly tiers. The forth installment in the series will be covering spey fishing for Great Lakes steelhead.
My good friend Jeff Mishler from New Water Media is the man behind the extremely popular Skagit Master Series of videos. Jeff was gracious enough to invite me to be a part of the newest addition to the series, Skagit Master 3. The video will focus on fly tying, and the philosophies of the tiers. My segment will include my Reverse Marabou and Loop Leech. Look for the video to be available sometime this winter.
