Airflo Xceed = Ultimate Versatility

Check out this video with my good friend Tim Rajeff talking about Airflo's new Super DRI Xceed fly line. While Airflo Spey lines have become extremely popular over the years, with the introduction of the Super DRI material the company is finally making a charge in the single-hand fly line market.

There's four spots open during my hosted week at Alaska West next summer. In addition to to hosting, I'm the "Guest Spey Instructor" for the week. I'll be giving clinics and personal instruction to the whole lodge throughout the trip.

We're chasing kings, rainbows, dollies, chums and grayling... The diversity of the Kanektok River is amazing!

Its sad moment when your guide says its time to head to the barn... Especially when it's you're last day at Alaska West. Over-all, it was a stellar week. We had a great group in camp, the guide staff is the best I've seen in my five seasons hosting trips, and the river was in great shape.

Unfortunately the weather was amazing. King salmon hate sun like I hate mosquitos and white socks. Most mornings we had a nice marine layer of clouds which helped the bite. As the skies cleared by lunch time, swinging for kings got tough. Tough but not impossible.

Twenty Two Bucks For the Moose Hat

"You know it's a big fish when a you can smell your reel"

Everyone has a favorite fishing hat… usually because it’s lucky. More than likely it’s lucky because the first day you wore it the fish gods smiled in your direction and you railed. Luck is a funny thing…

What if you forget your favorite tuke while on a trip to one of the world’s greatest Chinook salmon fisheries? A new hat can be risky business when chasing kings. Especially when your only opportunity to get a new one is at the gift shop in the Anchorage airport. The selection, as you can imagine, is limited to some pretty ridiculous shit.

Back in salmon camp and the fun factor is pinned at a solid eleven. The river is in kick-ass shape and full of salmon. The whiskey is flowing and stories of the day are being told in the club house. Life is good... We're back on the K-tok.

I landed in Fairbanks, AK last night at 11:00 pm and the sun was still blazing. Its been close to 18 years since I've been to Fairbanks and despite being accosted by mesquitos last night, I'm stoked to be back. There is a sence of space up here that can't be measured... It's amazing to be flying at 20,000 feet and see nothing but mountains all the way to the horizon. Denali was out last night in its full glory! Frickin amazing!
