July is one of our favorite months here in the Columbia Gorge. The reason? Hordes
of dime bright steelhead start ascending the lower Deschutes River. Most folks don't
start thinking about steelhead fishing until the fall. If they only knew what they were
missing. If you've ever landed a July steelhead on the lower Deschutes, you know
why this time of the year is so special. July fish are by far the hottest fish you'll ever
hook. They'll just about rip the rod out of your hand sometimes!
With the Columbia River high like it is, we usually have incredible fishing in July.
Plus, the fish counts at the Dams are already better than last season. (Last season
was epic!) Our guide trip calendar is filling up quick. If you would like to book a
guide trip, now is the time to call.
Trout fishing on the Deschutes should remain strong through the month. Caddis,
crain flies, aquatic moths and little yellow sallies are all on the menu.
