The classic... Norm Woods Special

Here's three best stonefly dry flies for Deschutes River trout.  The key to a good stonefly dry is that it must sit low in the water... The natural bugs look like a canoe full of water. -Only the wings are above the water line.

I love to fish my Golden Stone dry for just about any water type. The rubber legs give the fly a seductive wiggle Deschutes trout can't resist. Plus, it floats well and is easy to see. The Norm Woods Special is a Deschutes Classic and accounts for a ton of fish every season. That said, it gets a little over played by the middle of the hatch and the fish get wise to it. The final player is the Chubby Chernobyl. Fairly new to the game, the Chubby has quickly becaome a favorite on the river, especially in heavy pocket water. I floats like a cork and fish love to munch it!

Good Luck!
