Larimer's Reverse Marabou
Tube Flies
Tube: 1 1/2" HMH Thick-wall Micro
Thread: 6/0
Under Body: Polar chenille
Body: Marabou (Two colors)
Flash: Flashabou or Fishhair
Collar: Schlappen or guinea
Cone head: Large, Nickel

About the fly:  Marabou tubes are great for winter
steelhead fishing.  By tying in the marabou in reverse,
you can get a lot more bang for your buck.  The marabou
fibers fight the current instead of laying back.
Consequently, you can get away with less material.
This gives the fly more action, sinks faster, and is easier
to cast.

Tying Instructions: To tie the Reverse Tube, first place
the tube into the vise using a tube fly tool.  Start you
thread wraps 1/2" from the left side of the tube. (right
side for south paws)  Using the feather folding
technique, tie in what will be the front layer of marabou,
about 4 to 5 turns of the primary color.  Follow with 4 to 5
turns of the secondary marabou plume.  Next, make five
tight wraps of Polar Chenille and whip finish.  Take the
tube out of the Tube Fly Tool and turn it around.  Restart
your thread as close as you can to the marabou.  It
helps to wet your fingers and stroke the fibers back.
Next, tie in 8 to 12 strands of flashabou.  Using the
feather folding technique, make five turns with the
schlappen collar and  whip finish.  Finally, push the
cone head onto the tube, trim the tube leaving  2mm
sticking out of the cone, and burn the end.

Larimer’s Sandy River Prawn
Thread: Fire Orange 6/0
Tube: 1" -Extra Small, Black Froden (Melt front)
Junction Tube: 1" -Medium,  Froden (Cut on angle)
Weight: Tungsten Cone -Large
Tail:  Ostrich
Under Body:  UV Polar Chenille
Body:  Marabou (2-3 turns)
2nd Under Body:  Arctic Fox (tied in reverse)
Underwing:  Flashabou, Mirage Flashabou, Crystal flash,
(3 strands each)
2nd Underwing: Ostrich (6-8 strands)
2nd Body: Marabou
Wing: Grizzly Hackle
Collar: Schlappen

About the fly:  The Sandy River Prawn is a variation of
the marabou tube.  With that said, this bug is so much
more.
The reverse tied Arctic fox in front of the cone head
creates a massive vortex within the fly.  This keeps the
Ostrich feelers constantly moving.  This fly looks alive!
More so, tying the cone head within the fly accomplishes
two things.
First, it protects your rod when you botch the set-up of a
cast and hit your rod tip.  More importantly, the fly tracks
parallel to the bottom on a slow swing.  When tied
properly, it sinks flat.  The SRP really shines on greasy
flats and soft tail-outs.  In this type of water, the fly
shouldn't dive head first.  With the Froden Tube, you can
fish it as a traditional tube, or rig it as a stinger.
