Marabou Tube Flies
Tube: 1" Froden Tube -Small, color to match fly
Junction tubing: 3/4" Froden tubing -medium
(super glue in place)
Thread: 6/0
Tail: Polar bear (optional)
Under Body: Polar chenille
Body: Marabou
Flash: Flashabou or Fishhair
Collar: Schlappen or guinea
Cone head optional

About the fly:  Marabou tubes are great for winter
steelhead fishing.  When weighted with a cone head, they
sink well.  I like the Froden plastic tubes.  A standard size
cone head will fit on the small size tubing.  I typically put
the cone in the middle of the fly.  Basically, I make a few
turns of polar chenille at the rear of the tube, tie it off, then
push the cone head back on the material.  Finish the
under body with a few more turns of Polar Chenille and
proceed with the rest of the fly.
For hooks, you can't beat Gamakatsu B10S in sizes 4 & 2.
After I slide the tube onto my 12Lb. Maxima tippet, I tie a
saltwater loop knot on the end.  I then thread a hook with
the loop doubled over, wrap it once, then put the hook tight
to the loop.  With 12Lb. Maxima tippet the loop knot can be
pulled into the tube

Marabou Tube Intruders
Tube: 2" Froden Tube -Small, color to match fly
Junction tubing: 3/4" Froden tubing -medium
(super glue in place)
Thread: 6/0
Butt: Polar Chenille
Feelers: Ostridge
Legs: Split Super Spey Hackle with guinea collar
Tube Body: Diamond braid
Underbody: Polar Chenille
Body: Marabou with guinea collar
Wing: Varigated Hackle
Head: Dumb bell eyes and dubbing
Flash: Flashabou or Fishhair (Optional)

About the fly:  This is one of my versions of the intruder
style flies.  I fish this version in dirty water.  Typically, the fly
was tied on a shank made from a 2/0 Mustad hook.  The
tube simply makes life easier.  I rig it just like my marabou
tubes, with a stinger hook.

Larimer’s Sandy River Prawn
Thread: Fire Orange 6/0
Tube: 1" -Extra Small, Black Froden (Melt front)
Junction Tube: 1" -Medium,  Froden (Cut on angle)
Weight: Tungsten Cone -Large
Tail:  Ostrich
Under Body:  UV Polar Chenille
Body:  Marabou (2-3 turns)
2nd Under Body:  Arctic Fox (tied in reverse)
Underwing:  Flashabou, Mirage Flashabou, Crystal flash,
(3 strands each)
2nd Underwing: Ostrich (6-8 strands)
2nd Body: Marabou
Wing: Grizzly Hackle
Collar: Schlappen

About the fly:  The Sandy River Prawn is a variation of
the marabou tube.  With that said, this bug is so much
more.
The reverse tied Arctic fox in front of the cone head
creates a massive vortex within the fly.  This keeps the
Ostrich feelers constantly moving.  This fly looks alive!
More so, tying the cone head within the fly accomplishes
two things.
First, it protects your rod when you botch the set-up of a
cast and hit your rod tip.  More importantly, the fly tracks
parallel to the bottom on a slow swing.  When tied
properly, it sinks flat.  The SRP really shines on greasy
flats and soft tail-outs.  In this type of water, the fly
shouldn't dive head first.  With the Froden Tube, you can
fish it as a traditional tube, or rig it as a stinger.
